Welcome to this week's collection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.

There wasn't much going on at Blockley's brickworks in Hadley on Monday, October 2, 1972. Between 50 and 60 men who had been on strike the previous week for higher piecework rates had voted on the Saturday to return to work, but when they arrived on Monday they found their cards had been removed from the clocking-in machine. "This is a lockout," said Eric Timmins, of the General and Municipal Workers' Union.

The Nesscliffe RAOC football team in 1956 – that's Royal Army Ordnance Corps – featured two legends in Duncan Edwards, who is front row, second from left, (Manchester United and England) and was a PT instructor at the camp, and Bobby Charlton, front row, second from right, also later Manchester United and England. They were doing their National Service in the Army at Nesscliffe. The photo was originally loaned to us by Brian Griffiths, of Shrewsbury, who is back row, far right. Brian was also on National Service (drafted in 1955) and was in the same platoon as Bobby Charlton, who arrived later. They were in the same platoon billet.

The Great War will still have been very fresh in the memories of this group commemorating Armistice Day in Knighton in 1920. They are standing in front of the town's clock tower. Look closely and you can see a bugler playing, so no doubt they are standing at attention for the Last Post.

Maintenance work was taking place at Bridgnorth Cliff Railway in January 1973. The maintenance engineers working on the track and carriages are from left, Arthur Unit, John Murphy, Martin Simpson, and Arthur Nettleton.

This was the aftermath of an IRA bomb attack which hit Shrewsbury on August 25, 1992. The main target was the historic collections of Shropshire Regimental Museum in Shrewsbury Castle, although shops were targeted by firebombs. This flag of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry was among the items destroyed by fire, although the museum was to rise again like a phoenix.
