No new coronavirus deaths reported in Shropshire hospitals but six more in care homes

No new coronavirus deaths were reported in Shropshire's hospitals today, although six more people have died in care homes in the county.

The latest deaths update from NHS England reported no new deaths at Shropshire hospitals.

It means a total of 578 people have died with Covid-19 at county health trusts since the start of the pandemic.

The majority of the deaths have happened at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital trust sites but 34 patients with Covid-19 also died in the care of Shropshire Community Health Trust, and seven at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.

In total 287 people have lost their lives in county care homes – 211 in the Shropshire Council area and 76 in Telford & Wrekin, according to today's data from the Office for National Statistics.

That is an increase of six on last week; four in Shropshire and two in Telford & Wrekin.

Across England, 164 coronavirus deaths were confirmed today, with 37 of them occurring in the north-east and Yorkshire. Another 35 were reported in the North West, and 29 were reported in the Midlands.

The youngest patient to have died in England was 11 and the oldest was 100 years old. All except eight (aged 49 to 87 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

The date of death ranges from December 20 last year to yesterday, March 8, with the majority being on or after March 4.
