The A442 Queensway northbound carriageway was closed on Monday afternoon between the Hollinswood Interchange heading towards Greyhound Interchange while inspections were carried out.

It was closed at about midday and reopened shortly after 4.30pm once the bridge had been made safe.

Telford & Wrekin Council said that both police and structural engineers were on site during the closure, but it could not confirm what had hit the bridge.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Laura Maltby said: "Police were called to the A442 in Telford shortly after noon today following a report a bridge was damaged and there was debris on the road.

"Highways were informed and are also in attendance attended."

During the closure, traffic had been forced to leave the A442 northbound at the Hollinswood Interchange slip road and the road was closed until just under the bridge.

The southbound side remained open and traffic was able to rejoin the road at the other side of the interchange.

Multiple police cars remained on the scene throughout the afternoon.
