Matthew Pinkney, of Wem, was caught driving a Renault Megane in Devon while under the influence.

He was driving on the A30 at Honiton on August 14 last year.

A test found the 32-year-old had 4.2 microgrammes of Delta 9 THC - the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis - per litre of blood. The legal limit, taking into account accidental exposure to the illegal, Class B drug, is two microgrammes.

Pinkney, of Cordwell Park, Wem, pleaded guilty at Kidderminster Magistrates Court to driving a motor vehicle with a controlled drug above the specified limit.

As well as disqualifying him from driving, Deputy District Judge Vijaya Monro made Pinkney subject of a 12-month community order which includes 40 hours of unpaid work.

Pinkney was also ordered to pay £135 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
