Shropshire builder banned for drug driving
A Shropshire builder caught drug driving in Shrewsbury has been banned from the road for 16 months.
Luke Alan Tapley was stopped by police while driving his Ford Fiesta in Battlefield Road because of a faulty light. But officers could smell cannabis in the car and he was tested – resulting in a positive cannabis reading.
Tapley, 22, of Haywood Lane in Cheswardine, near Market Drayton, pleaded guilty to a charge of drug driving when he appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday.
Mike Phillips, prosecuting, told the court that Tapley had been stopped by police at about 11pm on May 29.
Tapley was arrested, and he then gave a blood test at the police station which showed he had 4.8 micrograms of Delta-9-tetrahydracannabinol in his system.
Mr Jamie Wade, for Tapley, said: "It is fair to say there was no evidence of poor driving or impairment. It was a routine stop because one of the lights was out."
Tapley was disqualified from driving for 16 months, fined £250 and ordered to pay £150 court costs, £85 costs, and a victim surcharge of £25.
