Carol singers serenade Oswestry shoppers
Shoppers stocking up for Christmas at an Oswestry town centre supermarket were greeted by choirs singing festive carols and songs.
Choirs from across Oswestry were in full voice at the town's Sainsbury's store as part of national carol singing weekend.
The in-store music was turned off to allow shoppers to enjoy the singing.
Local community groups were invited to sign up to take part and raise funds for local charities.
Singers of all abilities from amateur enthusiasts to professional choirs, families and friends, and schools, charities and community clubs, joined in to spread the festive cheer. Store manager Bryan Martingano said the music had brought a smile to everyone's faces.
"It's lovely to hear the festive spirit coming to life," he said.
"We've had great feedback from customers and the standard of singing has been really high.
"They've been fantastic.
"We did this last year as well but we've increased the amount of different choirs taking part this year."
The choirs were given the option of collecting donations for the in-store charity of the year, Oswestry Qube, or to raise money for a charity of their own choice. Some groups chose to just go along and sing for pleasure.
Among the groups taking part was Oswestry Choral Society, which performed just inside the entrance of the supermarket on Saturday morning.
Choir member Hazel Davis said: "Sainsbury's invited us to come and have a sing and we thought it was something we'd like to do.
"We've just finished our season and this was our last event of the year. We do like to do community singing if we can."
