Shrewsbury estate baa-ffled by lost little lamb
Residents on a quiet housing estate in Shropshire were left baa-wildered when they spotted a lamb wandering around their street in the early hours of the morning.
But they weren't still counting sheep in their sleep, for the little lamb was roaming around Albert Road in Sundorne, Shrewsbury, from about 7am yesterday.
The sighting sparked calls to the police before neighbours managed to herd the animal into the back garden of the nearby Mencap centre.
The lamb has now been taken into care by the RSPCA.
Resident Mandy Austin said: "It was about 7.15am and I was still in bed at the time when I heard this noise outside but I thought it was a little girl at first.
"Then I looked out the window and there was just this little lamb stood in the street which was a pretty surreal moment. Stray sheep are certainly not a common sight on this housing estate.
"It was only a little thing and was quite difficult to catch but a man from across the road managed to get him into the garden of the Mencap centre before the police arrived."
She added: "We couldn't work out whether it was injured but it certainly didn't look happy. With it being market day I thought maybe it could have somehow fallen off a truck of some sort but it remains a complete mystery."
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "We did receive a call from a resident in Albert Road at about 7.45am with reports that a lamb had been wandering around the nearby streets, but there were no immediate concerns for road safety.
"The caller thought the animal might have been injured and was mystified about how it got there. The animal was contained within the ground of the Mencap centre before police called the RSPCA who are now dealing with it."
