Shropshire's Paralympic athletes aim for medals

Three of Shropshire's Paralympic medal contenders were in the thick of the action today as the action began in London.

Gold Medal archery contender Dani Brown,24, was shooting at The Royal Artillery Barracks in a preliminary round.

Miss Brown, who moved to Telford a year ago to train at Lilleshall, is one of Britain's best medal hopefuls and is going for gold.

She met Prime Minister David Cameron last week and told him she was shaking with nerves. The Prime Minister told her the Games would be life-changing for all involved.

Swimming star Gemma Almond won a place in tonight's final at 8pm for her 200m individual medley, qualifying seventh in 2:41.28.

The 19-year-old from Shrewsbury is a first-time Paralympian studying history at Swansea University.

Volleyball star Sam Scott will be in action at 2pm in the first of four games, as Team GB takes on Russia.

Mr Scott, 21, is based at Church Aston, near Newport. He has been supported by Rotary Club of Newport and Newport Lions and is a former pupil of Newport Infants, Moorfield School and Adams' Grammar School.
