Nick Rogers, who works at Stuart Barkley Cycles in Salop Road, said it was causing problems for delivery drivers.
"They are just a bit fed up with it," he said. "It is delaying them and so the deliveries come a bit later.
"Crossing the road is a nightmare. Sometimes I can get lucky and get across quickly, other times it takes a few minutes."
A spokesman for another business in Salop Road said they had noticed an increase in traffic.
Bargain Booze staff said some of their customers have found it harder to park outside the shop.
Sarah-Jayne O'Kane, for Severn Trent, said the authority was busy renewing the water mains to "maintain a reliable water supply to households" and work was due for completion tomorrow.
"We apologise for the disruption and thank the local community for their patience while we carry out this vital work."
