Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward with information.
The victim visited Ludlow Hospital later the same day only to be transferred to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for more specialist treatment. The exact nature of his injuries has not been revealed.
Detective Constable Will Quan, of Ludlow CID, said: "The victim reported that he also had a BlackBerry mobile phone, a silver Dolce and Gabbana watch and some cash stolen during the attack.
"Four men have been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident. All have been interviewed and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
"If anyone was in the area that night and saw or heard anything which might be connected, please could they contact police on 0300 333 3000."
