Fears had been raised that Ludlow would grind to a halt while work was carried out to the Tara clothes shop on King Street for four weeks, starting in February.
A section of King Street at its junction with Bull Ring and Broad Street will be closed while the work is carried out and diversions will be put in place.
But two of the town's Shropshire councillors, Martin and Rosanna Taylor-Smith, insist access to businesses will be maintained.
Mr Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council's cabinet member for transport and IT, said: "We are keen to inform residents and businesses well in advance of the work as we understand that it will cause disruption. However, we will do all we can to limit this."
Mrs Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said: "Ludlow town centre will be open for business as usual whilst this essential work in King Street is carried out.
"We are giving advance notice to ensure all residents, shops and businesses have time to plan ahead."
