Having read the article in the Shropshire Star (October 3) I felt compelled to write to express my shock and deep concern over the extreme naivete of shop owners and some members of the public regarding new "hoodies" which completely hide the face.

I believe these will give juvenile delinquents the anonymity they have long craved when attempting to steal cars, belongings from cars, commit street robberies and shoplift.

I feel the views expressed in the article are somewhat backward when we are now in a society that is trying hard to clamp down on youths wearing caps and hoodies.

And yet this article seems to be suggesting that certain people are encouraging teenagers to wear these menacing hooded fleeces.

I am in my mid-20s and I feel very strongly that if I feel scared and intimidated by them goodness knows what a young child or an elderly person or a mother and child would think.

Before long it will be dark by tea time, which will make these hoodies appear more menacing and frightening, especially to young children.

I firmly believe that shop owners who sell these are very naive to think that they are simply harmless fun.

One has to wonder whether profit has blinded them to the reality that these are the disguise criminals everywhere have been waiting for.

I would be interested to find out what sort of clientele have been rolling up to purchase them.

I will be somewhat surprised if local retail watchdogs do not do a rapid recall on this product due to their appearance and the obvious risk to the public.
