Local characters pose at inn

Handwritten on the back of this postcard is "Middletown, near Welshpool, Four Crosses Inn, listed in Shropshire Kelly's 1909."

The name of the licensee at the time of this picture, which may be from around 1905, was John Wilkes.

The photographer has managed to get the various local characters - and logic dictates that one of them might be Mr Wilkes himself - to pose in a rather artistic composition.

Note that the gentlemen standing outside the pub have jugs or jars in their hand. We wonder what's in them.
