Telford singing group celebrates 10 years with anniversary show

A Telford singing group is marking a decade of performances with a special anniversary concert at Telford Little Theatre

A Telford singing group formed after appearing together in a local amateur theatre production is marking its 10th anniversary with a special concert.

The Ronnies will perform at Telford's Little Theatre in Donnington on Saturday (November 7), with an evening of close harmony singing and music inspired by the 1940s.

The group was formed after Sabina Smith, Jenny Olenik and Fran Taylor appeared together as the Ronnettes in Telford and District Light Operatic Players' production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Stephen Oliver-Davies, who played Seymour in the show, later joined the trio and The Ronnies were born.

Over the past decade, the group has developed a repertoire featuring songs made famous by artists such as The Andrews Sisters, performing at venues and events across the country.

These have included Blists Hill Victorian Town, RAF Cosford, the Severn Valley Railway and Bletchley Park. They have also performed for D-Day veterans, including Bernard Morgan, now aged 102.

The group supports the ENSA Memorial Appeal, which is raising funds to commemorate the entertainers who performed for British Armed Forces personnel during the Second World War.

The anniversary concert will feature songs from the group's ENSA-inspired repertoire in the first half, followed by a second half promising a few surprises.

A raffle will also be held to raise money for the memorial appeal, while audience members are welcome to wear vintage-inspired outfits.

The Ronnies' 10th Anniversary Gala starts at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 7.
