Shrewsbury Rotarian takes on new role after joining club just last year
The Shrewsbury woman has taken on the role after just a year as a Rotarian
A Shrewsbury woman who joined her local Rotary club only last year has taken on a senior role.

Joycelin Hoyland has become vice president of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club, having joined as only the second woman member in the club's nearly 40-year history.
She succeeds Marcus Watkin, who has stepped down from the position because of health issues. He will remain a member of the club and continue his work managing some of its social media and website.
Marcus, who has been vice president since June 2025, said his time in the role had been “very fulfilling”, including involvement in club projects such as its new Santa sleigh campaign.
He said he was certain Joycelin would “continue to develop the club's projects and fundraising campaigns”.
Joycelin, who is chair of governors at Shrewsbury College, will become president of the club next spring, succeeding current president Johnathan Callwood.
She said: “Whilst my move to vice president comes with sadness as to the reason, I am honoured that the club has faith in me.

“I will do my utmost to represent the members of the club and continue with the excellent work the Rotarians do in support of the local community.”
Mr Callwood paid tribute to Marcus's contribution, highlighting his work helping to establish a new website and social media presence and building closer links with Shrewsbury Food Hub and other charities.
He said: “I respect Marcus's decision to step down and he has a remarkable ability to act for the greater good. These are the qualities of a true Rotarian.”
He added: “Joycelin has those qualities and I know that the club will continue to grow and help many more people under her guidance.”
