Last month, Bridgnorth Cemetery was named the best at the National Cemetery of the Year Award.
And now a Bridgnorth gravedigger has won Gravedigger of the Year at the Good Funeral Awards 2026.
Louis Fensome, who grew up in Bridgnorth, was given the accolade on Saturday, after being nominated by Ludlow Town Council in recognition of the standard of work he carries out at their Henley Road Cemetery.
Louis who runs L. Fensome Grave Digging, works in cemeteries across Shropshire, Herefordshire and the Black Country.

He began his career in the funeral profession at just 17, working as a mortuary and funeral assistant at Perry & Phillips Funeral Directors in Bridgnorth, gaining experience in coffin making, mortuary care and pallbearing.
In 2019, he became self-employed and has since built his family-run gravedigging service, with his father subsequently joining the business.
He has now been named the nation’s best.
