New Telford padel courts officially opening this weekend

The sport has seen a rapid growth in popularity

New padel courts are set to open in Telford this weekend.

The courts, which provide a way to play one of the UK’s fastest growing sports, are at Telford Tennis Centre and open officially on Sunday, November 1.

The courts are the result of a partnership between Telford & Wrekin Council and We Do Tennis and form part of a wider investment in racket sports across the borough.

Padel, a sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, has seen rapid growth in popularity and is suitable for players of all ages and abilities.

The new courts are available to book via the Padel Mates app, with prices starting from £20 to £28 per hour.

A range of introductory offers are also available through the app.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, said: “We're delighted to be opening the new padel courts this weekend and bringing this exciting sport to Telford.

“These fantastic new facilities are another example of our commitment to investing in quality leisure opportunities that support health and wellbeing across our communities."

Nigel Hunter, Co-Director of We Do Tennis, said: "We can't wait to welcome players onto the courts. There has already been a lot of interest in padel locally and we're excited to give people the chance to experience the sport right here in Telford.

“Whether you're picking up a racket for the first time or you're an experienced player, padel is accessible, fun and a great sport to play with friends and family."
