Ludlow volunteers roll up their sleeves for town clean-up ahead of food festival

Ludlow volunteers out in force with brushes and brooms and to spruce up the town ahead of popular food festival.

Volunteers from Ludlow’s Super Sunday Clean-Up team spent Sunday morning weeding, sweeping and tidying streets and public spaces ahead of the festival – while also helping to make the town a nicer place for residents.

Armed with cleaning equipment and a coffee from Pronto, volunteers gathered at the Cannon before spreading out across the town.

Teams worked through the Market, Castle Street car park, Dinham, Mill Street and Broad Street, clearing weeds and generally giving the town a spring clean – although thankfully they were spared the need for sunscreen this time.

After nearly two hours of work, the volunteers gathered at Vine & Juniper for a complimentary glass of wine and sandwiches provided by Vaughans.

The Super Sunday Clean-Up initiative grew out of the Ludlow Residents Group and continues to be led by Carmel Wilson and Tracey Richardson.

Residents have continued to support the initiative since the first Super Sunday event two years ago, turning out in all weathers to help improve their town.

“It gets me every time,” said Carmel.

“No matter the weather, the team turns up, smiling and willing, and works solidly for nearly two hours. It is a joy to see and is such a positive news story for Ludlow.”

The latest clean-up was also helped by a donation of equipment from the Ludlow Town Tour Guides.

“The cleaning tools and equipment, the hi-viz jackets and those trusty Marigolds are from a generous donation from the Ludlow Town Tour Guides,” said Tracey.

“This came out of the blue but is such a welcome and important message – and shows how strongly our community groups work together.

“We are enormously grateful to the Town Tour Guides.”

The next Super Sunday Clean-Up will take place on Sunday, November 22, when volunteers will prepare the town for Ludlow’s final major event of the year, the Winter Festival, which runs from November 27 to 29.
