Members of Borderland Rotary Club gathered at The Boathouse on the Mere before enjoying a walk along the Llangollen Canal and through Ellesmere Tunnel, continuing a tradition that dates back to the club's early years.

The annual event also provided an opportunity to welcome two new members.

Organiser Chris Bryan-Smith said the walk had once again proved a popular fixture in the club's calendar.

"It was a really enjoyable outing, with some people joining us for the walk and others for dinner afterwards," he said.

"It was a great way to welcome two new members and catch up with old friends. The company, food and service were all excellent, and despite the challenges the dry weather has brought, it was lovely to enjoy the canal in the sunshine."

Founded in the early 1990s, Borderland Rotary supports a range of community activities across the Oswestry area and is now encouraging more people to get involved.

The club is looking for volunteers and organisations to help with major events, including the Oswestry Christmas Parade and the annual Borderland Mountain Bike Challenge, which takes place each May.

Chris also thanked staff at The Boathouse for hosting the event.
