Claverley man's artwork to raise money for Severn Valley Railway

They might look like the traditional posters which lined the railways in the golden-age of steam.

But actually, these prints have been created by a Claverley man to raise money for the Severn Valley Railway.

Alan Reade, a long-time supporter of the SVR, wanted to do something to raise extra money to fund the heritage line.

So, in 2008, he started painting classic posters of stations on the line, which he makes into postcards and prints and sells at SVR events.

"I've been a member of the Severn Valley Railway for donkey's years. I can't remember how long. This is my way of supporting it," he said.

Alan has produced two series – the first are in a classic GWR style, the second in a 1920s art deco style. Now he has a third.

"This third series of posters has been inspired by the up-coming visit of the Flying Scotsman and Tornado locomotives to the SVR in September 2016," he said.

He also designed a pub sign for the King and Castle at Kidderminster town station.

Greetings cards and signed prints of the artwork for all the posters are available in various sizes from Smith York Fine Art Publishing, Jackfield Tile Museum, Ironbridge.

A wide range of greetings cards, including Shropshire scenes, canals, old tractors, farm poultry, animals and country cottages all based on Alan's original artwork, is available from Claverley Post Office.
