Plans to turn former north Shropshire Indian restaurant into two-bed apartment given green light

The India Garden closed around five years ago.

The owner of a former Indian restaurant in Market Drayton has been given permission to turn the building into an apartment.

The India Garden in Market Drayton, which closed around five years ago, will become a two-bedroom apartment under plans recently approved by Shropshire Council.

The building on St Mary's Street is in a poor state of repair and is next door to the town's former Citizens Advice Bureau at Number 6.

Number 6 was substantially damaged by fire several years ago, and is now largely demolished.

That work has left the side of the former Indian restaurant - which had adjoined the fire-struck property - exposed to the elements.

Shropshire Council determined that the plans to turn the restaurant into an apartment would represent an “efficient reuse” of the building and would provide an opportunity to “improve the appearance”.
