Kevin Wilkin opens door to Ricardo Dinanga return at AFC Telford United

Wilkin revealed talks have taken place over potentially bringing back the transfer-listed Shrewsbury Town forward.

AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin confirmed talks have taken place over bringing Shrewsbury Town forward Ricardo Dinanga back to the club this summer.

Dinanga scored three goals in 32 appearances in all competitions for Telford last season after returning to the National League North club on loan from Shrewsbury.

The 24-year-old was transfer-listed by Salop at the start of the summer, but a move has yet to materialise. Bucks boss Wilkin says conversations have been held over a potential return to the SEAH Stadium - a move he would welcome.

“If we could get him back in, then we’d love to do that,” Wilkin told the Shropshire Star.

“Ricardo, obviously when he was first with us and got his move to Shrewsbury, he was playing some really consistent and good quality football, albeit at step three.

“Some players probably got in a little bit ahead of him last season and he perhaps didn’t get quite the minutes with us last season that he would have liked.

“But that was largely due to the strong form of the players that were playing there.

“He also had some personal issues that he needed to address along the way.

“But yeah, Ricardo’s still got plenty to offer. We’ve had conversations about potentially trying to get him back.

“But whether that happens or not, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Dinanga earned a move to Coventry City after impressing at Cork City in Ireland. Following loan spells with Hereford and Nuneaton Borough, he was released in 2023 before signing for Telford later that year.

The 24-year-old became a regular over the next two seasons and, after scoring 12 goals in 28 games during the first half of the 2024/25 campaign, secured a move to League One Shrewsbury.

Dinanga remained closely connected to the Shrewsbury squad last season, training with the group during the week. However, he was made available for transfer.

Telford have lost several key attacking players this summer, and Wilkin admits strengthening in forward areas is now a priority as the new campaign approaches.

He added: “There are some void spaces there that need filling. That’s where we need to focus a little bit at the moment.

“We’re not deep in numbers as a squad at the moment and we will be looking for players in most areas really.”
