AFC Telford United triumph on penalties after Shropshire stalemate
The sides could not be separated in 90 minutes.
AFC Telford United continued their preparations for the new season with a penalty shoot-out win over Shifnal Town.
The Bucks retained the Win Pryce Trophy with a 5-4 spot-kick victory, after neither side was able to find a breakthrough in 90 minutes at the Acoustafoam Stadium.
Both sides had chances to win it, with Shifnal’s Andre Landell coming close to a spectacular goal just minutes from time with an effort which hit the bar.
It was the National League North visitors who then edged it in the shoot-out, in front of a 615-strong crowd.
“This game always brings a good attendance, it is a local derby and it gets people out of their houses,” said Shifnal boss Connor Patterson.
“I am really pleased with the lads. The way they conducted themselves on the pitch, their shape and their workrate, everything about them.
“We came up against a very tough opponent, two leagues above us, who keep the ball really well.
“The lads are starting to build relationships together now. There are a few things we need to work on in training but on the whole, we are getting there.”
Telford next host League Two Crewe Alexandra in a friendly on Tuesday.
