Marston's Shrewsbury pub to undergo £255,000 facelift to become 'Grandstand' sports venue

Venue is the latest to become a 'Grandstand' venue by operator Marston's

A Shrewsbury pub has closed its door temporarily to undergo a £255,000 facelift.

The Inn on the Green in Radbrook is the latest county boozer to be turned into a 'Grandstand' sports venue by pub group Marston's.

The company said the pub would be transformed with new features designed to deliver a "stadium-style experience" ahead of reopening on November 18.

The refurbishment will include the installation of multiple big screens, an immersive sound system and flexible, tiered seating to enable a better view of the screens.

The beer garden will also be refurbished, with new TV screens and customers will be able to order through the Marston's Order & Pay app.

The venue, in Bank Farm Road, will also be decorated with local sports memorabilia and is calling on the community to share photographs and items to help celebrate the achievements of local sports stars and teams, past and present.

Dartboards and pool tables will return alongside new competition leagues and free-to-play recreational sessions.

A new range of bar food will be introduced including a 'Match Day Menu' which will have small bites such as chicken wings, nachos and burgers while draught beers will be available in two-pint cups.

Local sports teams will be able to apply for a 'Black Card', giving them access to exclusive offers, endless fries on team nights and rewards for celebrating wins at their local.

This is the latest project by Marston's to create new Grandstand pubs in Shropshire after similar projects were announced for The Beeches pub in Bayston Hill, after it was severely damaged in a fire in August, and The Barley Mow in Madeley.

Marston's operations manager Peter Davies said: "We're so excited to show off the new and improved pub.

"With a calendar of sports up ahead, Inn on the Green will be the perfect destination to get involved in a big event atmosphere and soak up the action, especially thanks to some amazing new technology, food and drink offers and events."

Marston's said it launched the Grandstand concept after industry research revealed that 8.5 million consumers had watched live sport in pubs, with 86 per cent of fans preferring sports pubs for their atmosphere, better screens and sound, and the chance to connect with friends and family.
