'I don't see it any other way' - Future of Wolves forward revealed
Rodrigo Gomes starred for Wolves against Fulham.
Rob Edwards has revealed Rodrigo Gomes’ future is with Wolves next season after his starring role against Fulham.
The 22-year-old was brought back into the starting XI at the weekend but played a more advanced role as Wolves played a back four at Molineux.
The versatile wide player started the move that resulted in Mateus Mane’s goal and was involved in most of Wolves’ good attacking moments in the 1-1 draw.
Edwards was pleased with Gomes’ showing and says he will form part of Wolves’ squad in the Championship.
“He's always full of endeavour and commitment,” Edwards said.
“He's a young player and still has loads to learn and work on, but that desire and enthusiasm to run and to fight is there from him.
“We're pleased with his work and his day-to-day. The exciting thing with him is I think there's a lot more to come.”
When asked if that will be in a Wolves shirt next season, Edwards added: “Yes, why not? Yes, of course, I don't see it any other way.”
Wolves did not do their usual end of season awards on the pitch at full-time, while there was no organised lap of appreciation with the players and their families.
Instead, Edwards led most of the players around the pitch to clap supporters, while some members of the squad only clapped the South Bank before leaving the pitch.
“My mind's purely been on the football,” Edwards said when asked about the decision on a lap of appreciation.
“I went around and did my bit. I had a conversation with one of the fans the other night at the forum and talked about the importance of that as well.
“I thought the response was probably to be expected, a few boos at first, and I thought actually there were a lot of people there that showed understanding as well, the longer I stood there.
“I appreciate the supporters. There's a lot of frustration and anger around and it's down to us now going forward to prove to them that we're going to be heading in the right direction.
“I don't know what happened behind me. That was something that, I've got to be honest, I hadn't focused on.
“I knew what I was going to do but I hadn't focused on that.”
