‘Ultimate professionals’: Gavin Cowan praises Shrewsbury Town transfer-listed quartet

Cowan provided an update on his transfer-listed players, who he hailed as ‘ultimate professionals’.

Gavin Cowan has praised Shrewsbury Town’s transfer-listed quartet for the way they have handled an uncertain summer after being made available for moves away.

Defender Tom Anderson, who is among the players available for transfer, featured as a second-half substitute in Town’s pre-season victory over Everton Under-21s on Tuesday night.

But he was the only member of the quartet involved, with Sam Clucas, Callum Stewart and Ricardo Dinanga yet to feature during pre-season.

Salop boss Cowan has provided an update on the four players, who he says have remained professional since being informed they can leave the Croud Meadow.

He said: “I’m not sure, I think things are happening all the time.

“You’ve got four great lads there. I’ve got to say that they’ve been absolute, ultimate professionals. Conducted themselves impeccably.

"It's just something that’s moving along. That’s in place. They’re working hard. They want to play football. They’re not trying to make anything difficult at all.

“They’re just good people who have to look after their own agenda a little bit. Which is understandable. We have to respect that. We have to support them with that.

“But the agreement is that they understand where they’re at.

“What’s really refreshing is that they just want to play football. They’re good enough to.

“It’s difficult. We have our own process, and we know what we feel works. But these lads will certainly bring something very, very good to another team, I’m sure.”

Shrewsbury host Championship side West Brom this weekend looking to make it three consecutive pre-season victories.
