Shropshire bridge to close for maintenance for two weeks

To carry out the proposed work safely, the council said it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic.

A Shropshire bridge is to close next month for maintenance work, the council has said.

Shropshire Council say the works, which are due to start on Wednesday, November 2 will require the closure of Bridges Youth Hostel Bridge, which carries the C5193 over Darnford Brook from the Horseshoe Inn to Ratlinghope Junction.

The council said the works will include taking down and rebuilding the right end of the upstream parapet and general repointing following a road traffic collision.

To carry out the proposed work safely, the council said it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic. The closure will be in force 24/7 and the council said it is likely to be closed for two weeks.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route.

The council said: “Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.

“Inevitably there will be some disruption during these works, for which the council apologies in advance and will always endeavour to minimise any inconvenience to residents.

“The work will be carried out by the council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.

“Advance notice signs will be erected at the bridge and an information letter delivered to local properties.”
