Shrewsbury Town continue pursuit of Brentford forward Iwan Morgan

Transfer latest: Cowan keen on Morgan, and wants attacking additions.

Gavin Cowan says he would “love” to bring Iwan Morgan back to Shrewsbury Town as the club continues to pursue a move.

Salop remain keen to re-sign the forward and have been in discussions with the Premier League club over a deal that could see him return to the Croud Meadow on loan.

Morgan is currently in Portugal with Brentford’s first-team squad as they prepare for the new campaign.

“I've expressed that I would love to have him to sign again,” Cowan told the Shropshire Star.

“But look, he’s a Brentford player. So unless their stance changes, nothing changes on our side.

“Of course, we would love to have him back. I have put my best foot forward.

“I've been really on the front foot with that. But we have to respect that he’s a Brentford player.

“He’s gone out to Portugal with them now as well, with the first team.

“So he’s also got his own agenda and his own future to be concerned about.

“So if that can be with us, great. But as it stands at the moment, there’s no movement on that.”

The Wales youth international became a firm fans’ favourite during his loan spell in the second half of last season, scoring three goals as he helped Salop preserve their League Two status.

Morgan remains under contract at Brentford, and Shrewsbury can only recruit players on loan after being placed under a transfer fee embargo.

Cowan outlined that he wants to add attacking recruits as Shrewsbury continue their search for further additions in the final third.

“We’re looking at another striker, another 10 to come in,” Cowan added.

“But equally, we need to balance the books. We’ve got a couple of lads that we’ve put on the transfer list. Those things are moving along.

“They’ve got their own agenda to look after, which is the right thing for them. We respect that. But, yeah, of course we want to add a couple more.

“It's been a really tough window, in truth. We’re in every room, but there’s a lot of people in those rooms. So it’s very, very difficult.

“It’s been really tough. We’ve been working extremely hard to get around players, to speak to players, to convince them that this is the place for them to be. And it takes a bit of time.

“You just ask for a bit of patience. I'm trying to be proactively patient at the moment.”
