Shrewsbury Town takeover latest: New American group in talks
Salop said to be ‘locked in’ conversations with consortium
Shrewsbury Town are in talks with a new American consortium as they seek an end to their long-running takeover saga, the Shropshire Star understands.

It is just over a year since an American takeover of Town collapsed following a lengthy period of exclusivity, but a new group from across the Atlantic are now showing serious interest.
While they are not in exclusivity at this stage, sources close to the deal insist the two parties are ‘locked in’ talks - while other parties continue to show an interest.
The news comes just weeks after American Premier League legend Brad Friedel was spotted in the stands for Town’s 2-1 defeat at home to Walsall.
Roland Wycherley first put the club up for sale in 2021, but has seen several takeover bids fall through in the meantime
That was the closest Salop came to sale with an exclusivity period of several months before the plug was finally pulled on the deal with Town heading down from League One and on their third manager of the season.
They faced further relegation worries this season, but the appointment of Gavin Cowan has brought a turnaround in form - with Town’s EFL status secured with a 1-0 victory over Oldham Athletic at the Croud Meadow on Saturday.
In his February address to fans, chief executive Liam Dooley wrote: “The progress on and off the pitch reflects a club determined to move forward together. Unity remains our greatest strength, and we thank every supporter for playing their part in that journey.”
