Fan groups react after Shrewsbury Town takeover consortium revealed
They have given their verdict after Shrewsbury Town revealed the individuals behind the American consortium.
Supporter organisations have welcomed the unveiling of Shrewsbury Town’s prospective new owners.
The club has named the individuals involved in the American consortium seeking to complete a takeover, led by Scott Davidson and featuring former Premier League goalkeeper Bradley Friedel.
It follows Davidson’s approval by the English Football League (EFL) and Independent Football Regulator (IFR) last week.
The developments come after an open letter was sent to current owner Roland Wycherley calling for greater transparency over the proposed takeover last Sunday.
The letter was organised and endorsed by several supporter groups, with umbrella organisation Floreat Salopia now reacting to the latest developments.
In a post, the group said: “We welcome the identity of the prospective buyers being made public today and applaud shrewsbury Town for the transparency.
“On the face of it, they look to be the right sort to take Salop forward and we look forward to hearing more about their plans.”
The letter to long-standing owner Wycherley included questions about the club’s future, the prospective owners, timescales and what supporters could do to help ensure a smooth transition to new ownership.
In a statement on Monday, the club said it would respond to the letter after “due consideration”, and Floreat Salopia is still calling for some questions to be answered.
“Developments this week have answered many of the questions in our open letter, but we still look forward to a response from Shrewsbury Town,” the group said.
“We would particularly like to hear more about the timescale, confidence of completing the deal, and plans should it not go through.”
They added: “We firmly believe our open letter still asks relevant and important questions.”
