Boss confirms Shrewsbury Town still interested in free agent market

Cowan reaffirmed that Town are always looking to improve despite the transfer window having closed.

Boss Gavin Cowan is happy with his Shrewsbury Town squad but admits the club is still keeping an eye on the free agent market.

Despite the transfer window closing at the start of the month, the Town boss insists they are always looking for ways to strengthen his squad.

Cowan had previously said the free agent market would be explored, and that remains the case.

He said: “Yeah, of course. I’m happy with what I’ve got. We’re always looking to improve.

“I was very vocal about wanting to bring in an experienced number 10 and an experienced nine for a long time. It didn’t happen.

“We had to adjust slightly in bringing some of the younger lads in. We feel like they can really contribute to us going forward.

“So, look, I have to play the cards I’m dealt and these lads, for the market that we’re in, have shown real great promise.

“We’ve been competitive in every game. We’re a young squad. You need to cut the players a little bit of slack in terms of they’re a new group as well.

“There’s 10 new players in that squad. That’s half of a squad who need to understand the way we work. And we work very strategically. There’s no getting away from that. It does take a bit of time.”
