Telford boss confirms 'unfortunate' injury to Wolves loanee

The 20-year-old goalkeeper had made an impressive start to life at Telford

Telford goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin may require surgery following an injury picked up while training with his parent club Wolves last week.

The 20-year-old had been an ever present for the Bucks in the National League North prior to last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Harborough Town, only to be a notable absentee when Kevin Wilkin named his squad to face the Bees.

Benjamin saw his 2025/26 campaign plagued by injuries too, and the Telford boss admitted the situation was tough to take for the young man, who had impressed in his first two months at the SEAH Stadium.

“We’re not quite sure about the extent of things yet, but it’s really unfortunate,” Wilkin said. “He trained on the Friday back at Wolves and just felt his knee pop, which is a shame so soon before the weekend.

“Lewys comes and trains with us on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then trains with Wolves during the rest of the week where they have a really good goalkeeper unit, including Josh (Gracey) who we know well.

“He was due to have an MRI scan on Monday but I haven’t spoken to him about it since. It looks like he probably did some damage to his cartilage but hopefully it’s not any worse than that, because if it is he might require an operation.

“We wish him all the best because it looks like he’ll be out for the foreseeable future, but thankfully Brandon came in against Harborough and did extremely well.

“It can be difficult for players to be out of the team, and I’m sure it was hard for Brandon, but when you get an opportunity to sign a player of Lewys’ quality, especially off the back of what Josh did for us last season, you have to take it.

“Brandon has handled himself really well and had a really solid pre season, and hopefully now he stays up to those levels in the team.”
