Shrewsbury specs wearer focuses on big prize

Mark Roche, 32, has been chosen out of hundreds of people across the Midlands as a regional finalist for the title of Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year.

Mr Roche, from Shrewsbury, will win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if he wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.

Glasses wearers have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online and entering in stores across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Mr Roche came out on top in the Midlands region and visited the Specsavers branch in Shrewsbury this week to receive a bottle of Champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to have been selected as a regional semi-finalist," he said. "I saw the competition online and thought I'd give it a shot, so to be in with a chance of winning £10,000 plus a holiday is fantastic."

The national awards ceremony will take place at London's 8 Northumberland Avenue on October 6.
