Following the instructions issued by his satellite navigation system left this lorry driver with a truck-load of problems.

For some reason his sat nav seemed to think the best way to transport a load of cars from Swansea to Deeside was via the narrow, bendy lanes of Pontesbury, near Shrewsbury.

The lorry got wedged in at Clare Cottage on the A488 just past Hignett's Butchers in Pontesbury.

It took the driver 30 minutes to get out of the sticky situation causing a back log of traffic around the village's one-way system.

Butcher Nick Hignett said he had seen the lorry drive past his shop and knew it would get stuck.

He said: "There was no way he was going to get round that corner. We have spoken to the Highways Authority in the past but they say there is no sign to limit the length of a lorry.

"The driver had come from Swansea and was going onto Deeside. He said it was his sat nav.

"I think he should have gone on the A49.

"Eventually after half an hour, he did manage to get it just round the corner but he had to scrape all the way round the church wall with his trailer."

Hugh Dannatt, Shropshire County Council's group manager for traffic and highway engineering, said: "We are aware of residents concerns.

"Working with our contractors Mouchel we have carried out investigations to find ways of preventing this."

The incident happened just after 7am on Saturday.
