River levels rising: Flood alert in place from Welsh border to near Shrewsbury
A flood alert has been issued for the Severn Vyrnwy confluence, with roads and low-lying land near Shrewsbury and the Welsh border at risk.
Communities along the Shropshire border have been placed on alert as rising river levels threaten to flood low-lying land and roads.
The flood alert has been put in place for Llanymynech, Maesbrook, Melverley and Pentre, where the River Severn meets the River Vyrnwy, with rising water levels forecast to potentially cause flooding on Saturday evening, October 24.

The Environment Agency updated the alert at 6.05pm, highlighting the risk to low-lying land and roads along the river corridor stretching from the Welsh border at Llawnt to Shrawardine, close to Shrewsbury.
Communities including Llanymynech, Maesbrook and Melverley are among those potentially affected. Additionally, roads connecting Maesbrook, Melverley and Pentre are expected to start flooding as river levels rise.
At Llanymynech, river levels are predicted to peak between 3.5 metres and 3.8 metres overnight into Sunday, October 25.
The Environment Agency said it was closely monitoring the situation. People are being urged to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through floodwater.
