Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee passed proposals for 55 homes at Plough Farm Nursery in Newport and a nearby application for 19 homes at land south of Beechfields Way.

A proposal for 22 homes on land north of 61 Plantation Road in the village of Tibberton, near Newport was also approved by the committee.

The Plough Lane site was put forward by Efford Homes and will include an access point onto Forton Road, to the south of the existing roundabout at the A41.

Councillor Tim Nelson represented Newport Town Council at the meeting and registered the authority's opposition

He said: "Respect the residents' views and retain the site as green space."

Despite the plea the plans were approved. Under the terms of the proposal 19 of the homes on the site will be affordable homes.

As part of a 106 agreement the developer will pay £45,000 towards canal towpath improvements, £121,537 towards primary education, and £39,577 towards highways works.

The proposal for the homes at Beechfields Way came from Marches Care.

Committee member Councillor Nicola Lowery spoke against the plans, warning of the loss of more green space in the area.

Newport town Council had also opposed the plans and Councillor Nelson spoke to articulate their concerns, including adding more traffic onto Beechfields Way.

The application was approve by five votes to three and as part of the agreement the developers must pay £45,380 towards remodelling work at Newport Junior School and Secondary School, and £27,925 to the Burton Borough Sports facilities project.

A proposal for 22 homes on land north of Plantation road in Tibberton was also passed despite efforts from some committee members to get planning officials to create a different access road.

Council officials said it would not be possible to alter the access and the entrance will remain via Plantation Road.

Nine of the houses in the development will be affordable and there will be a contribution of £89,862 to refurbish a demountable building on the site of Tibberton Primary School.
