A call has been made to to try to get a direct shuttle bus service that links key areas of north Shropshire.

Currently, there is no dedicated shuttle bus that connects Oswestry town centre, Gobowen Railway Station and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

However, Councillor Duncan Borrowman wants to change that.

The Castle Ward member points out that Oswestry Town Council's Corporate Plan states that it will "continue to seek better transport links between Oswestry, Gobowen Train Station and the Robert and Agnes Hunt Hospital".

Councillor Borrowman is therefore calling on the town clerk to explore all opportunities in ensuring the Corporate Plan objective "is met with urgency" by the provision of a direct shuttle bus service.

His motion - which will be discussed at a town council meeting on Wednesday (September 9) - also calls for Shropshire Council to consider the service as part of its review of the local bus service under the provisions of the Bus Services Act.

Councillor Borrowman also wants the unitary authority to work in partnership with Oswestry Town Council and other affected parishes, which could include funding.

"The investigation should include whether Oswestry Town Council couldcommission and deliver a service under the provisions of the aforementioned Act," he said.
