Newport Carnival 2026: Road closures, timings and everything you can expect

The popular event draws thousands to the market town each year

Newport Carnival is set to return next month - here's everything you can expect.

It’s less than three weeks until the return of Newport Carnival on Saturday, June 13.

The popular event sees hundreds of visitors flock to the market town every year to enjoy the vibrant parade and take part in "a fantastic day of colour, creativity, and community”.

This year’s carnival is set to feature the usual lively mix of entertainment along with a variety of food and drink stalls to enjoy throughout the day.

The high street festivities will kick off at 10am, while the float procession will set off at 12pm.

To accommodate the event, several road closures are planned for the day.

Between 6am and 8.30pm the High Street (Upper Bar to Lower Bar), as well as St Mary’s Street and entrances from Stafford Street and New Street, will be closed.

Additional temporary closures will also be in place between 11am and 2pm during the carnival procession route from Burton Borough School, via Granville Avenue, Avenue Road, High Street and Salters Lane.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “We know road closures can sometimes be inconvenient, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.

“Newport Carnival brings thousands of visitors into our town each year and is a fantastic community event that supports local businesses and creates a brilliant atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

“We’d also like to kindly ask everyone to follow the instructions of our volunteer marshals on the day and treat them with the same kindness and respect they will show to you.”
