Polestar has ended production of its brand-launching 2.

The Swedish manufacturer kickstarted its operations with the 2 back in 2020 as it became a standalone brand from its former parent firm, Volvo.

The 2 was instrumental in boosting the brand’s presence in the UK and has remained, up to this point, one of its core models.

However, Polestar has now confirmed that it has ended production of the 2 – which is built primarily at production sites in China – as it moves to introduce newer models.

In a statement, the brand said that the 2 ‘has laid the foundation for our business and inspired the models that followed it’.

It added: “The production end is greatly significant to us at Polestar and marks the end of a chapter as we prepare for a new era with the arrival of the Polestar 2 successor in 2027.”

Most recently, Polestar has introduced its 3 SUV and 4 saloon, with a recent 4 SUV model expanding the line-up to bring a more practical focus.

In September, Polestar revealed its Formula 2030 Concept which brought a brief look at what the brand’s future models – including the upcoming 2 replacement – could look like.

At the time, Philipp Römers, head of design at Polestar, said: “Polestar’s design and brand is already so strong, it was obvious we needed a bold evolution not revolution of what came before.

“Formula 2030 delivers this, showcasing our future while respecting brand-defining elements like the familiar Dual Blade headlights, ensuring it remains recognisably a Polestar with a strong, characterful identity.”
