New 30mph zone planned for road near south Shropshire primary school
The plans also include a raft of parking restrictions
A new 30mph zone is being proposed to improve the safety of primary school children in a south Shropshire village.
Shropshire Council is proposing a range of parking restrictions and a new 30mph zone near Norbury Primary School in Bishop’s Castle.
If the plans are approved, the new speed limit would apply along a 147-metre stretch of road outside the school, which is currently the national speed limit.

A spokesperson for the local authority said the scheme “aims to improve the safety of school children, residents and other road users in the vicinity of Norbury Primary School”.
The council is also proposing the introduction of no waiting at any time, no loading at any time and mandatory no stopping on entrance markings restrictions on the road along the same stretch of road.
It’s hoped these measures will provide better visibility for drivers accessing the school as well as those on the approach to the school.
A public consultation into the plans will open on Friday, September 11 and run until October 2.
Full details of these proposals can be viewed online or at Bishop’s Castle Library.
