Suzuki SV650X set to make Tokyo Motor Show debut

New motorcycle harks back to the bikes and rally cars of the 1970s

Suzuki has today announced that it will be unveiling its new SV650X at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show.

An evolution on the SV650 Rally concept shown at last year’s show, the new motorcycle has been designed to hark back to the tarmac rally cars and bikes of the 1970s.

Suzuki GB general manager, Paul de Lusignan, commented, “The SV650 Rally concept generated a lot of interest at last year’s show, with retro-styled machines proving very popular among riders.

“The SV650X is an evolution of that concept, and shows how that would translate to a production machine. Currently we cannot confirm a production schedule. We will first assess reactions to the SV650X before finalising plans.”

In keeping with its retro style, the original SV650X features a freshly styled bikini fairing, as well as new fog lamps and a tinted screen. It also received clip-on handlebars and tuck-roll – a feature already available on the current SV650.

Though the striking concept already appears production-ready, Suzuki is currently in the process of assessing customer reactions before confirming its place in the model line-up.

However, the Japanese manufacturer will confirm its 2018 model plans in the upcoming months, meaning it won’t be long to wait for those eager to see whether or not this concept enters production.
