Homes near Broseley evacuated after landslide
Three homes near Broseley have been evacuated after a tree toppled following a landslip.
Emergency crews including Shropshire Council's structural engineers have been carrying out monitoring work at the scene after the incident happened in the Benthall area on Saturday afternoon.
No one was injured during the incident which is thought to have happened when a soil from a nearby garden slipped.
Shropshire councillor David Turner, of Much Wenlock ward, said: "A landslip took place and the highways department, building control, the fire service and the gas company all came.
"We can't say much more at the moment, but the situation is being monitored on a daily basis.
"It's an unfortunate thing to have happened to the people concerned, especially at this time of the year.
"All the agencies have worked together on it."
Neighbouring resident Colin Campbell said: "I had been away, but when I returned home on Monday I could tell something was wrong straight away because some of the houses had been cordoned off. My wife who had been here said she saw emergency services in the street on Saturday and a lot of activity going on.
"There seems to have been a garden landslip at one of the properties on the hill. That's all we know."
Sara Wilcox, of Cadent Gas, said: "Cadent was called by the emergency services at 1.25pm on Saturday to reports of a landslide in Benthall. As a precautionary measure the gas supply to two properties was switched off at the meter. The gas mains in the street were checked but there was no indications of any damage to the pipes.”
Wellington Fire Station Station officer Craig Jackson posted on Twitter: "We were alerted to a landslide near Broseley.
"Working with other agencies and other specialists including a geo-technical engineer, we were able to provide advice and mitigate risks to the public."
