As the diners tuck in to French-themed dishes at "Rene's Cafe" - a part being played by the Wroxeter Hotel near Shrewsbury - there will be live interactive theatre provided by members of the Stretton Players dressed as the cast of the classic BBC television sitcom.

'Allo 'Allo, which ran from 1982 to 1992, was set in a small cafe frequented by members of the French Resistance, the Gestapo, German Army officers, and escaped Allied prisoners of war.

The 'Allo 'Allo lunch and theatre on Sunday, September 23, is being organised by David Sear of Telford Centre Rotary Club, and is open to all.

"It is intended to be fun and to raise some funds for charity," he said.

"It is an idea I have seen before as a commercial enterprise, but that was based on Only Fools And Horses. I came across the Stretton Players who put 'Allo 'Allo on as a theatre production in Church Stretton. I phoned them up and suggested mixing their acting with a lunch.

"They hope to interact with the guests, particularly those who 'dress accordingly'. So there will be three sessions of acting and some comedy, together with a lunch.

"It is a first for the actors, the hotel, and me, but I know it will be fun."

It is a ticket-only event - tickets are £25 each - and numbers are limited to 120 people.

"At the moment we have sold 48. There are at least three Rotary clubs that are interested, but it is open to anyone."

Money raised will be be shared between the Shropshire independent visitor scheme for looked after children (Coram Voice), and the Rotary Club of Telford Centre Charity Trust.

Booking is through David at alloallotelfordrotary@gmail.com on email and the choice of main dish is coq au vin, boeuf bourguignon, or quiche.
