At around 1.30pm on Wednesday a group of travellers set up a make shift camp in the Oswestry Leisure Centre car park on Shrewsbury Road.

Two caravans, a van and a tent along with a washing line took over part of the car park, and security staff were outside the centre talking to users on Wednesday evening.

There have been some reports of minor damage to cars and anti-social behaviour, and Serco, which runs centre, has been working with Shropshire Council to manage the situation.

Chistopher Stanbrook, partnership manager at Shropshire Leisure Centre Trust confirmed that in the interests of customers additional security has been arranged for the site.

He said: "We are working with the council to manage the situation and a 'notice to quit' has already been issued by the courts.

"My team informed local police yesterday and, in the interests of our customers, we have arranged for additional security to be added to be on site."
