Jackie Harrison, of Whixall, has heaped praise on the staff at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, including those in the accident and emergency department who saw her first when she arrived.

The 73-year-old had trouble getting out of her chair at home and her husband John, 70, called an ambulance which took her to RSH.

John, who also runs the North Salop Wheelers community bus, said his wife was well tended to by A&E staff as soon as she arrived.

She was admitted and placed on a ward within the space of about an hour-and-a-half.

"From the moment I called the ambulance on that day we could not have hoped for better treatment," John said.

"She was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury, and yes she was in a cubicle, but her treatment began straight away, almost from the moment she passed over the threshold.

"People were bobbing in and out at very frequent intervals to make sure she was okay and responding.

"It must be so demoralising for those doctors and nurses who work their backsides off to help when all they get is negative waves.

"From the experience my wife had, they deserve to be praised."

Jackie said she was diagnosed as having sepsis during her visit to the A&E department in March and she was given antibiotics.

She said: "They were fantastic. I can't complain about any of the treatment I received.

"There was excellent care on the wards. If you needed anything you pressed your buzzer and they were there.

"It was hard for me because when it happened I lost the use of my legs. I couldn't walk. They were really good in helping me.

"I can't speak highly enough of them."

She spent two-and-a-half weeks at RSH before being admitted to Whitchurch Community Hospital.

But she had to return to RSH not long afterwards because of a chest infection.

"It was in the middle of the night that I had to go back," Jackie said.

"They were really busy at that time too but the care I got was excellent.

"I was there for another two-and-half weeks before I went back to Whitchurch again, and the care there was also superb."
