The family of an elderly woman who was brutally attacked in her own home are angry that nobody has been brought to justice for the “appalling” assault.

Blanche Rowlands was beaten in her home

Blanche Rowlands, 89, was left with significant facial injuries and suffered a broken arm in the attack at Upper Dolfor, Newtown.

Jewellery and other items were taken in the attack on June 19, which has been described by the family at the time as “sickening”.

Days later three men were arrested and released on bail. The family have not been given any more information on the investigation – and today they said they just want answers.

Her nephew Mervyn Lloyd-Jones said: “It is just so frustrating that something hasn’t happened yet. We just want some answers, we are anxious to know what happened – as are the rest of the local community.

“A few weeks ago there was an appeal for information regarding an attack with a hammer at Theatr Hafren. It makes you wander if that was the same people and if they are still on the loose.

“We are hoping we get some answers because the more the weeks go by the more anxious we are all getting.”

After receiving hospital treatment Mrs Rowlands returned home and has received regular physiotherapy.

It was discovered she had no viable shoulder socket left because of the damage done to her arm.

Mr Lloyd-Jones added: “She is worried when she goes for physio in case they discover there is another problem.”

A detective in the investigation said a picture of the stolen jewellery has been released in a bid to catch the culprits.

Det Sgt Ian Whitgreave said: “We are still working hard on our investigation into this appalling attack on a vulnerable victim.”
