Among the guests were the Mayor of Shrewsbury Councillor Bernie Bentick, the Leader of Shropshire Council Cllr Heather Kidd, and the High Sheriff of Shropshire Katy Tanner DL.

The celebration was also attended by Libby Cooper, daughter of the centre's founder, Roy Fletcher, and a member of the Roy Fletcher Charitable Trust.

Her presence provided a connection to the vision that led to the centre's establishment in 1996.

Roy Fletcher, a Shrewsbury businessman and former local councillor, recognised the difficulties faced by voluntary organisations struggling to find suitable, affordable accommodation.

His ambition was to create a permanent home where local charities could work alongside one another and better serve their communities.

Thirty years later, that vision continues through the Roy Fletcher Centre, which provides affordable accommodation and meeting facilities for local voluntary and charitable organisations, alongside its own community services, including digital skills support for older adults.

The anniversary celebration brought together people connected with the centre throughout its history, providing an opportunity to reflect on three decades of community service and recognise the contributions of the many organisations, staff, trustees and volunteers who have helped shape its development.

Guests were also able to explore a specially created anniversary exhibition documenting the centre's history, from Roy Fletcher's original vision to its present-day work.

Jenny Taylor, Chief Executive of the Roy Fletcher Centre, said one of the most rewarding aspects of the celebration was seeing so many familiar and friendly faces, including people who have contributed to the Centre's work over the years.

She said their commitment, generosity and support have helped make the centre what it is today.

The centre's chair, Alan Bain, joined staff, trustees and supporters in welcoming guests and marking the occasion.
