Shrewsbury Civic Society has given its verdict on the latest proposals for the redevelopment of Shrewsbury's Riverside.

The area is the subject of large-scale rebuilding plans, with Shropshire Council looking to create an ambitious new modern multi-use riverside destination.

The former Riverside Shopping Centre has been demolished ahead of the plans, with the first in a series of planning applications already approved.

The first stage was approved by the council's planning committee last March.

That application provides permission for the authority to create a new public park next to Roushill, including 'pocket gardens, event space and an amphitheatre'.

A second application - for far more significant developments of the site, was submitted by the council in November last year.

That proposal, which is yet to be approved, requests permission to reshape a large area of the demolition site, with the creation of a large 6,500 square metre podium which will be home to three large plots - numbered plots 3, 5, and 6.
