The fire broke out at a home in Westbourne, Woodside in Telford shortly before 1am yesterday morning and two fire crews from Telford and Tweedale were called to control the flames.

West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the incident, and firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one main jet to extinguish the blaze.

Malcolm Stevenson, a spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Two people, one male and one female were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"They were not taken to hospital, they were advised to go to A&E but declined.

"The house was about 50 per cent destroyed by fire.

"There is a fire investigation ongoing at the moment but we do not yet know the cause."

Fire crews spent just over an hour at the house, with the fire over shortly before 2am.

Windows and doors could be seen boarded up at the home, with smoke damage visible to the side of the house.

Fire crews were at the home throughout yesterday afternoon, and officers said investigations would be ongoing into the cause.
