Davina Delo carried out the attack on 83-year-old David Glass at his home in Charles Road, Arleston, Telford, together with her husband, David Delo, who was also handed a three year and seven month prison sentence when the pair appeared at Stafford Crown Court yesterday.

Mr Daniel Oscroft, prosecuting, told the court that the couple came to live with Mr Glass several years ago following the death of his wife Margaret.

He said the grandfather-of-six had been struggling to cope with his finances and his daughter had offered to help him. But the situation soon went downhill, with housework not being done and the property became run down and squalid.

Mr Oscroft said Mr Glass received two pensions but Davina Delo was draining his bank account on a monthly basis.

By June 2014, it was clear household bills were not being paid with the money, and energy supplies were eventually cut off.

The court heard the assault happened in June last year following the funeral of Davina Delo's son and Mr Glass' grandson, Jamie Penn, who died after taking a legal high.

Mr Oscroft said Mr Glass, who was 82 at the time, was punched and kicked repeatedly by the pair at his home following an argument.

Davina Delo, aged 47, now of Ivanhoe Street, Dudley, and David Delo, aged 43, now of Brook Street, Dudley, both admitted a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Davina Delo also admitted fraud between May 2011 and June 2014.

As well as being jailed by Judge Michael Chambers QC, the pair were also handed restraining orders forbidding any contact with Mr Glass, who has since moved to a new address.
